As Akron’s patio and deck builders, we just love working on an outdoor living project on a brand new home. These homeowners in Wadsworth, OH, contacted Archadeck of Akron once they settled into their new home. With no outdoor living space included in the design of their new home, they (and we) were working with a completely blank slate. They could add whatever outdoor living space(s) they wanted onto their new home. Fun!
The homeowners opted for a deck and patio combination space. That’s exactly what we would have chosen, too! Because of the slope of their lot, the main floor of the home is on the second level at the back of the house. You know what that means … yes … an elevated deck. And an elevated deck means … yes … you can have a covered porch underneath by using a InsideOut under-deck drainage system. Just perfect for those times when you want to be outdoors but need the protection a covered space provides, whether you’re ducking the hot sun or an unexpected shower. It also provides the perfect place for your grill.
For the deck, the clients chose low-maintenance TimberTech Legacy composite decking with a Key-Link cable rail. This amazing railing system gives the deck a very contemporary feeling. It’s practically see-through because when you look through the cables, you barely even notice them. This horizontal cable infill railing system is made by Key-Link Fence & Railing.
The homeowners chose a paver patio, and Archadeck of Akron designed the patio with curved lines for visual interest. The patio is actually built on two levels, giving the clients a convenient way to delineate two separate areas for different purposes. First, they have a dining area directly outside their French doors. Then, on the other side of the patio, and one step down, they have a fire pit with plenty of chairs around it for family and friends. The fire pit is gas-burning with lava rock.
The material the homeowners selected for the hardscapes is Unilock Brussels Dimensional pavers, which have a tumbled finish. We used these pavers for the patio, the fire pit, a retaining wall and a column at the edge of their dining area. We also used them to enclose the grill under the covered patio and for columns around the posts supporting the patio cover.
