Outdoor living rooms are trending in the Akron area, and for good reason. A covered outdoor room is simply delightful, day or night, and that’s exactly what these homeowners were looking for. Their home is situated on a beautiful corner lot in Akron near Clinton and New Franklin, OH. They already had a deck on the side of their home, and they wanted to add a comfortable outdoor living area in the back.
Enjoy the Protection of an Akron OH Covered Patio
Having a roof over your patio means you’re always in the shade, a huge benefit during Akron’s hot summers! It also means you can enjoy the outdoors during a rain shower without getting wet, which may sound odd to some folks. But if you love the sound, sight and scent of rain, you know what we are talking about. Another benefit of a covered patio is that it can protect your outdoor furniture to some degree.
Whether you call this a covered patio or an open porch, this versatile space will allow our clients to spend more time enjoying the outdoors.
For this project, Archadeck of Akron built the back yard out with a new cedar beamed patio cover over a stain and stamp patio. The stamp pattern our clients chose for their spacious new patio is called Texas Stone. As you can see, this patio cover is actually a roof, just as sturdy and protective as the roof over their home. Gutters along the edge of the new roof channel rainwater away from the patio to minimize splashing. From the inside, the full height of the gable roof accentuates the open and airy feel of this covered space.
At the home’s back door leading out to the patio, we built a custom stairway using TimberTech low-maintenance decking in the Brown Oak color. The homeowners will never need to paint or stain these steps to keep them looking great through the years ahead.
Enjoy the Magic of an Outdoor Fireplace on Your Patio
A majestic stone fireplace is the focal point of this inviting outdoor living room. The homeowners chose a wood-burning fireplace. Who doesn’t love gazing into those dancing flames? We used the same stone on the fireplace to build stone pillars at the base of the posts supporting the porch roof. Don’t you love the way the stones’ color variations pick up the dark and light accents in the stain and stamp patio – or vice versa? For contrast, we used a smooth, light-colored stone for the hearth and for the coping atop the stone pillars around the posts.
For those creature comforts that always make outdoor living extra pleasurable, we extended electrical service to the new patio. A ceiling fan is essential for those perfectly still days when you need to create your own breeze! We installed recessed lights in the porch ceiling, and we added electrical outlets on the pillars for convenience. We also added an outlet on the face of the fireplace so the homeowners can mount a TV there.
Would a covered outdoor room give you more ways to enjoy the outdoors at home? Whether you would prefer a covered patio or screened porch, we would love to design and build it for you. Don’t wait! Contact Archadeck of Akron today to schedule a design consultation for your new outdoor living space.
