Covered patios continue to be one of the best additions you can add to your home’s outdoor living space: they can keep your patio cool in the summer, prevent sun damage to your outdoor furniture, and even make sure your outdoor space remains functional when the weather outside is rough.
A recently completed covered patio project our team at Archadeck of Akron did in Kent, Ohio illustrates that when you add something like a patio or porch to your home, you don’t have to pick between beauty and function. Instead, you can have a new covered patio space that looks great and helps you continue enjoying your outdoor space – rain or shine!
The clients reached out to us wanting a covered patio to help them avoid the sun and scattered showers in Kent. As you can see, we designed this covered paver patio with that specific need in mind. During summer, you can spot these homeowners enjoying their shaded patio, sipping on iced tea, and lounging in the breeze from their ceiling fan. Even when it rains, the couple enjoys staying outside and will even find themselves enjoying dinner outside while others head indoors.
Function Without Beauty is Not Enough
This project is gorgeous, too! You’re looking at back-door comfort and ease fashioned with front-door aesthetics. The curved paver steps, flanked by columns, present an elegant entry at the rear of the home that’s graceful enough for a front entrance. The covered patio addition frames the back of the home and creates a comfortable setting designed for pure relaxation. In case there’s any doubt about that intention, you need look no farther than the hammock!
Akron patio and hardscape builder Archadeck of Akron designed and built this protected paver patio with a double border of contrasting pavers. The curved edge at the front of the patio echoes the gentle curve of the steps leading into the home. We repeated the darker band of pavers at the base of the steps and as an accent row in the columns.
From Patio to Covered Patio: Just Add Roof
In addition to designing these lovely hardscapes, we also brought our talents as Akron’s premier porch builder to this project. The gable roof features a decorative end detail while its opening increases air circulation in the space. The interior features a beautiful knotty pine ceiling. And what would a covered porch or patio be without a ceiling fan? We also installed recessed can lights in the ceiling so the homeowners can enjoy the space after dark. For additional convenience, we integrated electrical wiring into one of the stone (paver) columns and added an electrical outlet.
For homeowners looking to maximize the function of their outdoor living area, a covered patio or porch offers tremendous benefits. With the beauty of hardscapes and the protection of a roof, what more do you need to enjoy the outdoors at home?
