Once you decide to finally have that dream outdoor living space designed and built you probably “want it now!” But do you really know what you want?
For example, you know that you want a new deck or patio. But where? What features? These are the key questions for long term viability and functionality.
The best way to come up with the greatest space is design and doing a rendering in 3d. It is always good to come up with a plan of everything you want then scale back or phase the project. Starting with the plan that includes everything gives us the ability to break the project up in logical spots. This avoids having to redo work and will ensure that everything looks like it was built together.
Let’s Start At The Beginning – That’s A Very Good Place To Start
Regardless of how complex and rich your final outdoor living combination space turns out to be, we need to start somewhere.
Here’s a perfect example. We call it phased building.
This homeowner wanted to be able to step outside their kitchen door and be able to be close to nature – literally.
To embrace the vista of their beautifully treed rear landscape, we recommended a second story covered deck to augment the existing one that was already connected to the family room (the part in the photo in chocolate brown).
They also decided that they wanted this new deck to actually be a covered deck, so that the new deck area would provide shade protection from the sun.
But they weren’t ready to proceed with that part of the build as they wanted the construction to take place in stages to best fit their budget.
Planning Ahead For Whatever May Come Next
Knowing that we would be adding that covered deck shade feature eventually, our team needed to make sure that the deck was structurally sound and compatible to carry the weight load of a roof in the future.
To accomplish this, we built an extra foundation to support the yet-to-come roof shade cover.
