With a new pool, our clients in Cedar Park, TX, wanted the rest of their outdoor living space to measure up! They called in Archadeck of Austin for a backyard makeover. The results include a beautiful low-maintenance deck, new privacy walls and a beefier stand-alone pergola for a lot more shade. Life is good here!
Backyard makeover started with a “new” deck …
Our first order of business was a new deck surface, railing and stairs. We didn’t need to replace the entire deck, just the surface elements. We were able to strip off the old decking and railing to replace them. For their new deck surface, our clients chose light-colored AZEK synthetic decking, an ideal choice for a poolside deck. These decking boards stay cooler than many others, and they provide excellent slip resistance. For their new deck railing, the clients chose a black Fortressaluminum railing. We added path lighting and deck lighting in the area as well.

… then we “beefed up” the clients’ pergola …
While the original pergola here did not provide much shade, adding a pool changed the need for shade from “nice to have” to essential. This is the perfect setting for one of Archadeck of Austin’s custom pergolas. We are known for our beefy pergolas with closer trusses and closer slat installation for added shade, and we did not disappoint. We modified the top of this stand-alone pergola to increase the amount of shade it creates. We also modified the electrical service to the pergola to add a ceiling fan, outlet and switch to control the fan and TV. As a finishing touch on the pergola, we restained it to look new again.
… added privacy walls … and more!
Adding a pool not only increased the homeowners’ need for shade, it suggested the need for privacy walls in the area. We added two 8’ privacy walls using HardiePlank siding to give them a rustic, farmhouse board and batten look. One privacy wall fills in space behind the pergola and the other closes the gap between the pergola and the corner of the house. We also added a light fixture to one of the privacy walls for deck illumination. Finally, to complete this backyard makeover, we restained the wood along the bottom of the existing screened room opposite the pergola.
This Cedar Park, TX, backyard retreat is a dream come true. The homeowners love the way Archadeck of Austin carried out their vision for the project. This new and improved outdoor living space is everything they wanted and more.
