This Steiner Ranch backyard had seen better days and needed some tender loving Archadeck care.
There was an existing porch on the rear of the house. All of the siding above it was repainted, after we removed the existing ceiling and installed a new Synergy ceiling in the porch area, as well as within the new screened porch itself. For improved ambiance and functionality after sunset, we added a can light within the new ceiling, too.
We also capped the existing concrete patio areas with a 1inch flagstone, giving the revitalized space a beautiful touch of glamor and style.

The original deck was incorporated into this backyard improvement as it already had a pergola, a retractable awning, roof cover, and other layers of existing "stuff" on top of the deck.
We couldn't go deeper or wider with the deck dimensions due to space limitations, so we squared it up. We started by removing the angled corners while we shortened the width of the deck by two feet.
For long-term protection and comfort, we built a new shed roof over the existing deck and beefed it up to make it structurally sound to support the roof.
To allow comfortable natural air flow and provide protection from flying bugs and insects, we added screened walls on all exposed sides. Speaking of insects, we also screened underneath the deck to prevent insects from invading the space and making a new home for themselves.
The stunning skirting surrounding the improved space is cedar solid board, which also repels insects and performs exceptionally well in all Austin weather conditions.
Surrounding the upgraded space is a black aluminum railing which perfectly defines the area. In essence, this project would be classified as a deck to porch/screened porch conversion plus extras!
