Call it divine inspiration, but when Archadeck Outdoor Living designer Jim Schallon drafted plans for this protective extension to this Round Rock home exterior, our jaws dropped.
Rather than go with geometrically aligned louvered slats to diffuse the strength of the daytime sun, Jim turned the tables on this one.
By alternating the inset louvered pergola squares, this outdoor living protective overhead roof cover is the most innovative addition to the neighborhood backyard vista.
Things Are Looking Up – Way Up – With This Unique Pergola Design
Starting at the base of the newly designed pergola shade structure in the Vizcaya neighborhood of Round Rock, you’ll find a beautiful blend of softly colored chopped block to augment the hues of the home’s brick exterior.
Notice how the home’s exterior tonal values not only inspired the pergola’s color pallet, but also the geometry of the horizontal limestone blocks.
And notice the highly textural and yet contemporary linear-style install with a clean, dry-stack application. This stone is the perfect scale for an efficient installation, appealing to both commercial and residential exteriors and interiors. The muted color palette is indicative of natural limestone.
A Classic Touch Of Timeless Chippendale Design Crowns The Structure
As your eye gravitates toward the top of the pergola structure, the chessboard hatching design effect within the pergola is a contemporary homage to English cabinet maker Thomas Chippendale, who favored Chinese and Asian influences in his creations.
This complex design sensibility came about during the colonial period and flourishes today most notably in brilliantly different architectural designs such as this.
The simplicity of designing a pergola with repetitive geometric line patterns with a series of squares is a win/win for distinctive beauty, originality, and high overhead protection functionality.
Raising The Roof With Patio Pergola Covers With The Help Of SkyLift
Not being able to use your patio in inclement weather is now a thing of the past, with a sun cover that attaches to your roof exterior. By using SkyLift hardware, we ensure that your patio cover extension is installed optimally to provide years of outdoor enjoyment.
SkyLift hardware brackets are unique because they allow you to attach your pergola or patio extension well above the rain gutter without interfering with the roof's support system. The revolutionary design of this roof riser hardware results in more simplified and secure installations, as well as a better and more versatile finished product.
Because its support brackets raise your pergola and allow it to overlap with your existing roof, it allows this Chippendale design to flourish adding more natural light spilling in while at the same time releasing trapped heat or fire pit smoke through the "chimney effect" the roof gap creates.
When dependable, sound elevation is key, Archadeck trusts SkyLift hardware to check all of the boxes:
1. Designed, tested and manufactured in the USA
2. Excellent weather protection
3. Higher roof pitch reduces leaks and debris accumulation
4. Gutter systems undisturbed, easy to maintain
5. Expanded view and natural light
6. Better air circulation
How Was This Chippendale Pergola Design Achieved?
Our outdoor living construction team used 4x8's on 24" centers, with the alternating pattern of 2x6's blocked into the 4x8's on top.
To showcase the incredible shadowing effects as the sun shifts and sets, the structure is stained, which needed multiple layers to achieve this look.
But when the sunsets and evening settles in, the brilliance of the design from this Austin pergola installer does not fade into darkness. Instead, it shines as there are lights all over this project:
• 4 track lights
• Lights under the cap on the porch
• Outlets on the front and back of the benches
• Sconce lights
• And dual ceiling fans with lights
To accommodate the needed power supply, we added a dedicated line just for the outdoor lighting.
