This spacious screened porch and deck in the North Highlands Subdivision, North Shelby County, AL, was designed with the entire family in mind. If you have any doubts about that, just look at the adult furniture at one end of the porch and the children’s table at the other end. In the photo showing the basement-level patio tucked under the porch, you’ll see children’s swings hanging from the beam at the end of the deck/porch.
Archadeck of Birmingham built the porch and deck with pressure-treated pine and black aluminum balusters for a clean look and floor-to-ceiling views of the outdoors. To continue the balusters all the way around, we even designed a custom screened door with balusters. The homeowners love the wide expanse of screens that keep the porch bright and bring the outdoors in. The rich V-joint spruce ceiling tops off the screened porch with flair.
To bring indoor comforts out of doors, we installed oodles of electrical amenities. Inside the screened porch we installed four can lights in the porch ceiling, a ceiling fan with lights and electrical outlets galore. Outside we installed a sconce light at the porch door and flood lights on the outer corners of the porch. Tucked away under the porch is another ceiling fan that will provide much-appreciated cooling breezes to anyone relaxing on the patio. We know who else will appreciate those breezes: anyone pushing the children in their swings.
The staircase down to the yard has a mid-level landing and features black aluminum balusters that tie in with those around the screened porch.
