Does an outdoor living space have to feature back-of-home placement in order to enhance your outdoor living lifestyle?
Answer: NO.
When you imagine an outdoor living space, where does your mind take you?
You likely think of a backyard deck, porch or patio. However, did you know that an outdoor living space doesn’t necessarily have to be designed with backyard placement in order to enhance your outdoor lifestyle? It’s true. When considering the addition of a custom outdoor living space, you should consider where you need, and want it. A truly custom design doesn’t have to abide by any unwritten rules or recommended placement guidelines. Our recent custom front entry addition in Homewood, AL, is the perfect example…
When Archadeck of Birmingham met with the homeowners during the design consultation, they had an existing concrete front porch with tile and iron scrollwork railings. Since their home is located on the main road, their first goal was to add privacy to the front of their home. They also wanted an area where they could enjoy the positive benefits of their property without the negative aspects, such as mosquitoes and direct sun. Last but not least, they also wanted the design to add curb appeal to their home and a welcoming atmosphere for guests.
Comfort & Curb Appeal!
The custom design Archadeck came up with addressed all of the client’s needs, desires, and budget! First, we installed a sleeper system over the existing front porch in order to accommodate the new structure. We then installed new walls, new 6 × 6 wall posts, flooring and railing. TimberTech Terrain low-maintenance decking was used on the floor of the new porch and the bench steps we added out front. For the railing, we installed TimberTech Radiance Rail in white to add a clean contrast to the gray tone of the porch flooring. The entire area was then screened using the SCREENEZE® system which we mounted from the inside so as to not take attention away from the beauty of the porch posts.
The clients are thrilled with their new front-of-home screened porch entry! It has added curb appeal to the home along with providing a place for enjoying the outdoors in a private, cozy, insect-free space!
Custom outdoor living areas are replacing the traditional front porch because they fulfill every need that the traditional porch fills, along with several more that a front porch just can’t match. And, as an added bonus, the outdoor living space is just as nice as a front porch when it comes to spending time with your family.
