Deck, screened porch and more in Homewood, AL!
This project has it all — a comfy screened porch with an integrated outdoor fireplace, and a spacious grill deck. Having access to an open-air outdoor area alongside an enclave that offers shelter from showers AND a warming fireplace — who could ask for more?
These Homewood homeowners wanted to transform their aging deck into a safe and more functional outdoor living area. Archadeck of Birmingham built them a custom screened porch with a gable roof. Floor-to-ceiling screens all the way to the top of the gable will offer the homeowners and their guest’s ultimate fresh air and light entry into the space. The finished v-joint ceiling accommodated clean installation of recessed lighting and ceiling fans. In order to attach the new porch, we removed the home’s original overhang and replaced it.
Their new screened porch includes a custom gas-insert outdoor fireplace. The same ceiling fans that will help cool the porch on warm days, can be used to circulate warm air about the space on cooler days. You can read more about this amazing project in our feature story

Double your pleasure with two screened porch additions in Hoover, AL!
Archadeck of Birmingham is the area master of screened porch building and design. With this in mind, we highlighted two screened porch additions in 2018 on our blog. The first is a Must-see Farmhouse-Inspired Screened Porch Transformation, that renewed the style and function of a too-small screened porch and patio. The end result is a custom farmhouse-inspired outdoor room in Ross Bridge!
What makes this porch so special is the on-trend details we used in its construction. These include a sliding barn door, knotty pine ceilings and a custom buffet and drink ledge.
Our second focus porch project in Hoover is a Custom Cedar Screened Porch. Archadeck of Birmingham designed and built a cedar screened porch right on top of their existing deck. The porch is cedar-framed with custom trim, which conforms to the archway design in the patio below.
We kept the existing spiral staircase that leads between the new porch and the ground level outdoor amenities, but we added cedar railing framing with aluminum balusters around the screened porch area. This new enclosed screen porch area delivers a new way to enjoy time in both outdoor areas, as both spaces will complement the use of the other.
Speaking of BARN doors…
With the exploding popularity of barn doors as design elements, Trending Barn Doors Are Everywhere Including This Birmingham Screened Porch!
This project makes up an entire screened wall where we installed in a breezeway between the house and the garage. In effect, we created a screened porch out of a breezeway. The screened wall was made using a custom wooden barn door as the sliding panel in the center. Picture a barn door where the center wood panel is replaced with screen. All of the openings you see here are screens, not glass, even the lower ones below the railing.
A pet-friendly porch in Mountainbrook, AL!
This project consists of a pet-friendly screened porch we built for two cats and their human family. The porch is built with pressure-treated pine, and the black aluminum balusters are made by Deckorators. Notice the railing and balusters inside the porch screens. Some homeowners would have used a knee wall here, but these humans wanted to give their cats floor-to-ceiling views of the outdoors.
