Doesn’t this new screened porch look right at home nestled in this wooded lot in Alabaster, AL? These Archadeck of Birmingham clients in Alabaster’s Portsouth neighborhood made an excellent choice to use pressure-treated pine for their new porch. We like the way this porch demonstrates how your choice of building materials can complement your home’s surroundings.
The adorable 12’x16’ screened porch is just the right size for these homeowners and is compatible with the size of their adjoining paver patio. A larger porch would have dwarfed the patio and might have made it seem too small.
Floor-to-Ceiling Rustic Look Blends with Natural Surroundings
The aesthetics of pressure-treated pine throughout this screened porch are anything but boring. From the diagonal orientation of the floorboards to the exposed rafters, the porch delivers a thoroughly rustic vibe. We used PT pine for the rafters, wall posts, and rails in addition to the flooring.
For the ceiling, we used durable T1 11 plywood, which has a textured, ribbed surface and resembles natural wood. This material, often used for siding, gives the look of beadboard without the expense and works well in this open-rafter design.
We designed the porch with an open gable roof for extra height and greater expanse of the screened area. This summer, the family will appreciate the additional airflow the open gable roof facilitates. The porch roof matches the home’s existing roof, also a gable design. As your Alabaster, AL, screened porch builder, Archadeck of Birmingham custom-designs each porch to blend in and look original to the home rather than added on.
Custom Details Reflect our Clients’ Preferences
You’ll notice the homeowners put their own stamp on the project in several ways. They chose black aluminum balusters for the railing design around the porch, in the screened doors, and along the exterior stairway. The porch has not one, but two screened doors to the outside. One leads to the patio and the other opens out to the back yard. Finally, the clients chose to wrap their screened porch with a heavy-duty pet screen rather than standard screening material. The combination of balusters and pet screen will guard against damage to the screens from the family’s rambunctious fur-kids.
