Here at Archadeck of Birmingham, we pride ourselves on the ability to transform an existing outdoor living space. Whether it is an aging deck in need of resurfacing or a dated backyard design that no longer fits the clients’ needs, we are masters at eliminating the negative and accentuating the positive.
Building on (and out), on the positive elements of an existing outdoor living space is exactly what we did for these Mountain Brook, AL, homeowners!
These homeowners had an existing brick paver patio with an integrated cedar pergola. Upon consulting with Archadeck of Birmingham, they indicated their desire to have a more substantial area that offered shade and protection and storage potential. Additionally, they also wanted to extend their open-air outdoor living space with a deck. And, last but not least, the protected space would need to work in unison with the new deck.
Our solution was to design a space that spoke to the homeowner’s needs, budget and lifestyle and fit the design and architecture of the home.
Many elements went into the new outdoor living space. Our design includes a cedar screened porch with a storage area that steps onto a spacious TimberTech synthetic deck.
First, Archadeck removed the existing cedar pergola to create room for the new cedar screened porch. The new porch is finished in all cedar details including a cedar tongue and groove barrel-style ceiling and rails. The new porch includes ceiling fans for enhanced comfort and air circulation on balmy days, and the cedar railing is finished with black aluminum balusters for added aesthetic contrast.
The low maintenance deck was built using TimberTech Terrain decking with a pressure treated wooden rail and matching TimberTech rail cap. The balusters match the screened porch in black aluminum, and for added function and ambiance we installed deck post lighting.
Our Mountain Brook clients are just elated with the way the project turned out. They now have an area to enjoy open-air outdoor living and a protected space that extends the time they can spend outdoors. This outdoor living combination truly satisfies!
