Archadeck of Birmingham recently completed a complete outdoor living space transformation in picturesque Homewood, AL. The area is known for its breathtaking views and this backyard update truly brings the hills to life!

When these homeowners first contacted Archadeck and met with our design consultant, they had an existing wooden deck and attached screened porch. As you can see from the before images, the existing outdoor space was a steep haul to the 2nd tier of the landscape due to the property elevation. The clients were looking for an updated design with more of a transition area down to the lower area of the yard. They also wanted the updates to include lower maintenance materials so they could concentrate less on upkeep and more on the enjoyment of the space.

Once we had discussed the clients’ wish list for the updated space, we began work perfecting the redesign. The first task was to remove the existing deck, stairs and landings, Archadeck of Birmingham built a new low-maintenance deck using TimberTech Reserve decking in the color Dark Roast. We installed new railing using a combination of PT pine, black aluminum balusters, and a TimberTech cap that matches the decking.
As part of this project, we also built a new stairway areas leading to the lower portion of the yard as well as a new landing leading to the garage and driveway entry. All the materials match those used on the new deck space. This update makes all areas of the property more accessible from the deck. We then re-floored the existing screened porch floor using the same super low-maintenance decking as we used to build the new deck. We also replaced the railing using PT wood with aluminum balusters and topped it off with a TimberTech rail cap that matches the beautiful decking and porch flooring.
Taking the screened porch update a step further, we added new wall posts which brought the porch up to current codes. Archadeck finished this portion of the project by installing new screen, a new screen door and rails to the porch which match those used on the deck update.

The homeowners are elated with their new deck and updated screened porch. They are looking forward to many years of enjoyment in their backyard — and many more hillside sunsets and sunrises, too!
