Here at Archadeck of Birmingham, we specialize in providing our clients with the outdoor living space that suits their needs, desires, existing home and budget. We design and build projects both big and small. The project we are highlighting today proves that an outdoor living space makeover doesn’t have to be invasive in order to make a BIG impact!
— Archadeck of Birmingham converted an existing covered porch to a more protected, functional screened porch!
When these Hoover, AL, homeowners reached out to us, they wanted to turn their existing covered porch into a more protected environment. The mosquitoes, in particular, were of concern when trying to use the porch cover on warm spring and summer evenings. As you can see from the picture of the porch before we began the project, the area was open on all sides offering little respite from Mother Nature or insects.

After carefully going over the options with these Hoover homeowners, we came up with an effective screened design that would address their need for more protection. We also wanted to make sure the update was built in a way that appeared to be original to the home. As you know, Archadeck always prides ourselves on outdoor living designs with always been there appeal! Designing and building with originality in mind may seem simple, but it takes years of experience and knowledge to achieve this task.

The design of an outdoor structure isn’t just about a layout and the build. It is a reflection of your personality and that of your home. It is an extension of your outdoor lifestyle and how you imagine yourself and your family living in the space. Choosing a builder that will custom design your project to match your needs, and the architecture, style and materials of your home down to every last detail is important.
This project encompassed not only the addition of screens to the existing porch cover, but we also added substantial posts and framing. The exterior is finished with the same Hardie siding present on the home’s exterior. It is as if the screened addition was always there — only someone who knew the area was originally was a covered porch would be the wiser! Taking the details a step farther, we also installed the french doors you see in the picture above to allow more light into the home and better access to the screened porch.
