Once upon a time, in a beautifully wooded backyard in the Liberty Park neighborhood within Vestavia, Alabama, you would have found a gable roofed porch and side deck with a bay corner.
Unfortunately for the family that lives there, let’s just say that their outdoor living spaces had seen better days … much better … as it was originally built in the 1990s.

When used in the right backyard setting, the raw, organic beauty of textured pressure treated wood is the perfect building material, as is evident in this Birmingham deck and screened porch transformation.
To enclose this new and improved outdoor living dual structure, our Archadeck design team chose to use our proprietary screened panel system. Unfortunately, the old one did not have the benefit of being fabricated with fiberglass mesh as our new one does.
To add strength to the structure and safety, a majestic rail was built all around featuring aluminum balusters, which added a visual sense of security and comfort.
To make the entire space more functional, this Birmingham deck builder decided to relocate the access door and stairs. Previously, there were two doors which proved to be unnecessary for the way the family used the former outdoor living space.
As for this Birmingham deck and screened porch combination, we changed the footprint by lengthening the deck side-to-side and moved the location of the stairs to allow greater access to the area while adding a lovely architectural touch of visual interest.
Notice how we incorporated the same rail pattern from the screened porch knee wall into the screened porch door – an Archadeck of Birmingham signature design feature we often use when building or upgrading a screened porch for unity and cohesiveness of the design.
