A Multi-Level Deck Is Doubly Delightful For All The Right Reasons

Having developed a sincere and strong affection for natural wood decks in their lifetime, the family felt that it was time to revisit their outdoor living priorities – in style.

The first order of business was replacing, redecking and expanding their outdoor living space footprint.

We started by replacing the lower deck with a rebuild and then proceeded to redeck the floorboards on the upper decks in two areas, the rise approaching the second level and the second level itself.

Staying true to their preference for natural building materials, we used pressure-treated lumber for the entire revitalization and expansion deck project.

In addition to redecking and also rebuilding anew, we also custom designed and constructed new stairs and a new landing.

To accent the beauty of the real wood in its’ golden brown tonal values, we installed new vertical railings surrounding the entire project for safety, security, sightline definition and aesthetics.

As you can see, the new black aluminum balusters add an interesting touch to the overall project redesign.

Just as this Vestavia home has a great variety of places and spaces inside their residence, their remodeled exterior follows the same line of thinking.

A wide open deck with an alfresco dining table and chairs – check.

For crowd overflow and to create several conversation areas, we surrounded the new deck with built-in bench seating, also in pressure-treated wood – check.

The redeck used a diagonal placement of the new decking to add interesting definition to the remodel.

As you ascend the new stairway to the top level, it reveals an enclosed screened porch with a protective roof overhead to keep annoying flies, bugs and insects away while keeping family and guests dry when an unexpected sun shower hits.

This top level is the ultimate outdoor living room complete with lighting, ceiling fan air circulation and an oversized smart TV.
