In the realm of outdoor living structure design, there is literally no end to the creative placement and functional diversity we are able to design in order to fulfill a homeowners’ desires. Our most recent sunroom addition located in the Forest Acres community of Columbia, SC, is a great example of the individualized benefits a custom structure can add to your property and lifestyle.
This Forest Acres sunroom is designed to serve as the home’s front entry. The homeowners’ previous entry consisted of a front porch that did not let much light into the home. The new entry design includes windows along with French doors with sidelights.
We were able to follow up with the homeowners after they had a chance to get “cozy” with their new sunroom addition. When we spoke with the homeowners separately, each listed the benefits gained since the completion of the space. While both homeowners really like the sunroom, they use the area in different ways.
The man of the house enjoys reading, relaxing, and savoring his morning cup of coffee in the new space. Since he was diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), the light that flows into the sunroom helps him a great deal. Although the addition doesn’t replace a trip to sunny Florida, the new sunroom with its eastern orientation does makes a huge difference in the way he is able to combat the winter blues. Before, he had to venture out into the cold front yard to feel the morning sun. Now, with the sunroom addition, getting the sun therapy he needs is effortless and something he looks forward to. In addition, the convenient electrical outlets installed there to allow him to plug in his electric leaf blower and hedge trimmers without running extension cords. It has really made the task of pruning the landscape effortless!

The lady of the house is also enjoying all the natural sunlight that now fills the home. The sunroom provides panoramic views of the landscape and allows a birds-eye view of Mother Nature and the ever-changing seasons. And the beautiful finishes she chose for space, from the complimentary wall and tile colors to the contrast of the white cathedral ceiling and white fan, make a lasting first impression when guests come to call.

One aspect of the design both homeowners agree upon is the high quality of workmanship in the new addition. They were also impressed with the careful attention Archadeck owner Mike Reu spent with them before and during the project. They both noted how much they appreciated his patience and helpfulness!
