The space you’re about to see is special for a couple of reasons but what you will notice is the design’s desire to push boundaries and certainly to color outside the lines. The deck has two distinctly different areas with the lower level deck donning a unique hexagonal shape. And while that shape would have been a perfect fit for a gazebo or even a matching pergola, this pergola dons its very own unique and very custom shape. Although this lower deck protrudes from the upper-level deck, it is anything but a protrusion. It is that quiet hideaway surrounded with elegant thin railing spindles creating an intimate yet not confined feeling in the space. The lower deck also becomes a patio cover for the new paver patio below. In keeping with the geometric playfulness of this space, the patio extends only to the deck support columns as if peeking out upon the lawn from yet another private hideaway. This design was neither the creation of the homeowner nor the designer alone. Like all great designs, it was a collaboration of the homeowners envisioning outside “the box” paired with the recommendations and design expertise of the experienced designer.
