In a few words, it is how Archadeck of Chicagoland breathes new life into aging decks – a deck renovation. Even when decking requires replacing, there could be potential for saving the deck structure, and rebuilding atop what is there. This can save time and money for our clients, while still giving them the new deck they wish for.

Does my deck have to be the same size if I choose to re-deck instead of building all-new?
Not if you choose Archadeck of Chicagoland as your deck builder! While many of our re-decking projects are for decks that will remain the same shape and size as the original, this is not a prerequisite for our specialty deck renovation service. The Hoffman Estates deck that you see below is one project, which required an expansion in addition to re-decking. We saved the existing wooden deck structure and added new framing to it for the extension. In essence, this project included two parts. First, building an all-new deck for the expansion; Then, redecking the existing portion. No matter the means employed to achieve this new, larger deck, we think you will agree that the result is beautiful!

Do I have to use the same decking as my original deck for my redecking project?
No, it is not necessary to replace your old decking with the same type that was there before. We often upgrade the decking option for our redecking clients, which gives them the benefit of low-maintenance and longevity over pressure-treated wood. You have the freedom to choose whether to apply wood or composite decking to create the most suitable space for your needs. For this Hoffman Estates redecking and new deck project, we upgraded to TimberTech® PRO® Legacy Collection in Tigerwood finish. We installed the decking in a traditional horizontal orientation but utilized a contrasting-color parting board to break up the seams where the boards would typically abut end-to-end. In addition to the parting board, we applied a contrasting-color picture frame around the perimeter of the deck and matching solid board skirting.

Other useful elements of this Hoffman Estates deck are the low-maintenance TimberTech RadianceRail Express® in black finish and the extra-wide corner stair. You might have noticed that the deck’s stair was also placed on the opposite end from the original. Since we extended the deck beyond where the original entrance/exit used to be, the new stair is now usefully oriented closer to the home’s entrance.
