Viewing the Before and After images of this Dublin, OH, hardscape and double pergola project, you may wonder if you’re looking at the same house. We promise, it is the same house. The original outdoor living space here was just a small, builder-grade walk-out patio. There was so much more these homeowners could do here! Their yard beyond the original patio was like a blank canvas just begging to be adorned with attractive and functional outdoor structures.

Our goal for this project was to update the aesthetics while adding vertical interest and functionality to the space. The result was a beautiful paver patio, fire pit, additional vertical hardscapes, and a pair of pergolas!
Archadeck of Columbus Designs Complete Outdoor Rooms with Beautiful Pavers
We used several different Unilock pavers in coordinating colors to build the hardscape elements of this project. Archadeck is your Columbus Unilock patio and hardscapes builder! We frequently choose Unilock for our clients’ projects because these pavers offer excellent quality and durability – and they just look beautiful.
The homeowners were interested in creating three patio areas, each for a specific purpose. In the center, the largest patio area is circular and features a custom fire pit. The section on the left (when you are facing the back of the home) features the clients’ hot tub. The new grilling area is on the right.
We used Unilock Beacon Hill Flagstone pavers in the River Blend color for the floor of all three patio sections. Then, we bordered the patio with Holland Premier pavers in dark charcoal as an accent color. For the vertical hardscape elements – columns, retaining walls, stair risers and fire pit – we used Brussels Dimensional in River Blend. We topped the vertical structures with Brussels Classic Double Fullnose coping in Charcoal, again as the darker accent color. Coping is the term for the paving stones with a smooth, rounded exposed edge.
Add Pergolas to Your Patio for Vertical Interest
Why stop with one pergola when you could have two? We love this two-pergola design and the way each pergola defines its respective area while bracketing the patio’s open center section. We built the pergolas with cedar. Each one features double 2x10” beams and 6x6” posts. The pergola rafters are 4x6” and the lathing (across the top) is made with 2x4s. These pergolas will provide dappled shade throughout much of the day. The homeowners have already draped the pergolas with strings of outdoor lighting for delightful nighttime ambiance.
