Imagine a tranquil, spa-like getaway in your very own backyard – just steps from the rear of your home. Sound silly? Not with us leading the magical creation.
When we met with the clients, their existing outdoor living space – in their backyard, was just grass.
Archadeck to the Rescue!
Turning outdoor living dreams into a stunning reality is a daily gift to us here at Archadeck of Northeast Dallas-Southlake. We love bringing innovative and beautifully crafted outdoor structures to life with the finest CAD designers, excellent taste and world-class building materials.
During their free, no-obligation outdoor living design consultation, we listened very carefully to the wants and needs of this Dallas family on how to turn their grassy backyard area into an oasis.
In case you are not familiar with the essence of their request to have us design and build a cabana, it is essentially a detached covered porch – with special bells and whistles that make it a highly desirable place to enjoy the great outdoors.
A World Class Cabana – Deep in the Heart of Texas!
Our one-of-a-kind cabana design features a generous 15 foot by 23 foot footprint. Atop it all rests a stunning gable roof, made even more beautiful with tongue and groove wood which we stained in a Mission Brown color.
At the very top of the cabana exterior we used asphalt shingles to aesthetically mirror the roof of the family’s home.
As for structural details, we used king truss details in the design, and added gutters to facilitate rainfall away from the outdoor living structure.
King truss construction is used for simple roof trusses and short-span bridges. The truss consists of two diagonal members that meet at the apex of the truss, one horizontal beam that serves to tie the bottom end of the diagonals together, and the king post which connects the apex to the horizontal beam below.
The back wall accent of the build is where we wired for their new outdoor TV, engineered to withstand the elements of nature, which can be a challenge in Southlake.
The fanciful colored patio at the base of the cabana patio is built using Stain and Stamp concrete in a flagstone pattern in a wonderful combination of the colors: terra cotta, pecan bone and dark walnut.
To frame this foundation, we decided to add a 12 inch border in the color pecan, creating an easy-to-notice striking boundary for added safety and clarity.
In addition to installing wiring for the TV, we also wired the cabana for speakers, canned recessed lighting and ceiling fans – making it space truly worthy of spending countless hours of relaxation and enjoyment out there.
If this sounds like the ultimate space for a sports fanatic family, it is. They wanted us to ensure that the open air respite would easily accommodate their many family and friends – which it now does beautifully.
