“As You Like It” – The Tale Of A True Custom Designed Gable Roof Covered Patio Extraordinaire

Remember the 1977 classic TV commercial for Peter Paul Almond Joy candy bar and the refrain “Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t?”

Well, for better or worse, I sure do – and it’s the first thing that came to mind when I saw the result of this highly innovative outdoor living space now residing in Rowlett, TX.

It’s A Gable Roof Covered Open Air Patio And An Enclosed Screen Covered Room At The Same Time

Having your cake and being able to eat it, too, seems to be the mantra of our latest outdoor living home improvement addition in the greater Northeast Dallas Southlake area. Upon first glance, what you see is a majestic looking patio emanating from the rear of the home, well protected as it is covered with a custom gable roof to facilitate rain flow while honoring the original architecture of the home’s design.

Within the ceiling, we installed two generously sized ceiling fans and recessed lighting.

Fixed Screens In The Gable Section Of The Covered Patio Roof Allow For Protected Fresh Air Flow And Circulation

Validating the premise that the best referral for new business is from a satisfied client, this was our good fortune here. The family’s neighbor recommended that they contact Archadeck of Northeast Dallas Southlake for a complimentary design consultation.

before

Before.

When we first arrived in the backyard, we discovered a builder grade patio that needed to be removed to make way for an inventive new patio design and screened porch.

After

After.

Replacing it now is a stunning mosaic of muted off-whites, grays, and coral within a stain and stamp patio flagstone pattern. Depending on the time of day and how the sun hits the patio, colors of pecan tan, bone, terra cotta, and dark walnut also come to life.

An Outdoor Kitchen By Which All Others Will Be Judged

Nestled under the new gable roof, you’ll find a well-equipped outdoor kitchen with all the accoutrements and conveniences of its indoor counterpart. The new exterior kitchen design includes a grill, refrigerator, double door system warming drawer, and trash receptacles, as well as outlets on the back splash. They’re all the comforts of home in a brand new outdoor home improvement extension.

As for the design scheme itself, the new outdoor kitchen is constructed of chopped stone in the colors of nicotine and white. The same stone combination was used on the fire pit as well. Both feature gray Lueder’s stone tops with a cap on the fire pit and the countertop within the kitchen.

A New Outdoor Dining Room That Evolves Into A Cozy Outdoor Firepit Conversation Area

After enjoying an alfresco dinner inside the new covered patio, family and guests frequently venture a few steps onto an extension of the new patio into the backyard to enjoy dancing flames from the new circular stacked stone fire pit.

Privacy, Seclusion, And Inclement Weather Protection, When Wanted

When desired, the protective retractable screens are easily lowered to seal off the covered patio from the outside world – except for the geometric gable screened transom.
