Some people enjoy the winter and some people hate it. But living in Canada, we don’t get much choice in the matter. Often people plan a southern getaway to have something to look forward too during the cold, dark months. At Archadeck, we often tell people to start planning their new outdoor space in the winter, not only to have something to look forward too, but also to have something you know you can enjoy as soon as the spring hits.
Not surprisingly, the spring and summer months make up our busy season in the porch, patio and deck building industry. As the weather warms up and people move outside, they often realize they would like to improve their outdoor living space. Unfortunately, it can take weeks or months to get a new structure built – which cuts into the time you can actually use it.
At Archadeck we design and build custom outdoor living spaces – and it takes time. First step is the design process. During this phase, we learn your expectations, likes and dislikes. Depending on the type of deck you are looking for, we may do two or three designs to make sure it is exactly what you’re looking for.
After the design is finalized, we complete and submit building plans to the city for permitting. It can often take a few weeks to get the go-ahead from them and no work can be done until the permit is given.
With design and permit in hand, building can begin. Depending on the scale of the project, you should be enjoying your new space in just a few short weeks!
So, all this to say: we want you to enjoy your outdoor living spaces as much as possible. The earlier you get started, the more time you will have once the warm weather hits. Planning is a big part of that. Designing and planning can begin during a snowstorm or while the ground is still frozen. Another, benefit of starting now, is getting on the top of the building list when the weather lets us get out and start building.
