When planning any type of renovation — whether it is an interior remodel, a large multi-level deck with pool or something a little smaller such as a new set of garden doors, it is important to take the overall aesthetic and character of your home into consideration when choosing new materials and finishes. The smallest details can make a large impact.
This was something very important to the home owners of this Halifax project. They wanted to add a large outdoor space for their family and friends to enjoy long into the summer nights. From a design perspective, they also wanted the new space to lend more than a nod to the charm of their East Coast Style house.
When considering such a large project, home owners also need to consider the time it may take each year to keep up with the maintenance of a deck and landscaping. These home owners wanted to enjoy their deck in the summer rather than scape and stain it. For this, and many other reasons, we recommended using a durable, more hassle free composite deck and railing material.
Areas for lounging, dining, entertaining friends and, of course, grilling had to be incorporated into the new design. Archadeck of Nova Scotia created design concepts which included all areas of their wish list.
Balusters with clean lines were installed into the white composite railing; small details like this maintain a non-fussy overall look which reflects the trim on the windows and doors. We extended the height of the railing on areas which border neighbouring houses to add extra privacy for both parties. An added bonus to this outdoor space is the propane fireplace with built-in composite bench. This is a great way to extend the enjoyment of your outdoor space far into the summer nights and crisp fall days.
