Have you ever hold the old saying “if these walls could talk" in reference to a home that has seen many generations of loved ones within a family?
Some structures have the ability to withstand the years with resilience and dignity. They become a place where cherished memories become like grooves in the wood – hardwired into our memories. Our focus this week is about a pergola that if given that same chance to talk, would have a lot to say.
This Greensboro pergola was built by Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad. It was constructed using low-maintenance, high quality materials like hardwood rafters, a TimberTech composite floor and fiberglass columns. The columns used in the pergola’s design even match the columns of the owner’s home. Matching the elements of a cohesive design into this pergola aids in keeping the integrity and architecture of the pergola original to the home. By doing this the pergola looks as though it has always been there and blends with the style and materials of the home.
Greensboro pergola design in the springtime by Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad
This custom pergola started its journey as an Archadeck home show display where it served its purpose well for three years. Upon retirement it was then moved to the owner’s yard. Before they could install the pergola they first had to receive special permission from the neighborhood HOA. The owner was an avid gardener and the pergola served the family well season after season. The pergola was a beautiful addition to the backyard with each changing scene. The pergola has welcomed pansies and mums, and a few pumpkins during the crisp winds of autumn and a colorful array of perennials over the summer months. Even the winters were welcomed by its presence like a lone soldier ready to herald the arrival of spring. The pergola became part of the family, standing by to witness many of the family’s treasured memories and milestones.
Pergola in the fall – design by Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad
Fast forward a few years and the pergola was the center of attention at the wedding of the owner’s youngest daughter. The same cherished pergola weathered the winds of change to become the centerpiece of her special day. This pergola turned out to be so much more than just outdoor structure; it has served as a place of refuge, beauty and love. This is what the Archadeck difference is all about. Creating a place in your yard that becomes a beloved destination that changes with you and stands the test of time.

The seasons of change that this pergola has endured are the epitome of re-purposing an outdoor structure to fit the changes in your life, and outdoor lifestyle. From a display piece, to a garden room, to a focal point among plantings to the “best man” on their daughter’s wedding day. This pergola has loved and cherished in a way only a structure built with craftsmanship and quality can.
