Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad transforms this spacious and void backyard into a cherished backyard destination with an outdoor living combination that delivers a better allocation of space.
If you count yourself among the many homeowners who own a little bit of deck within a sprawling backyard, then you are not alone. This was exactly the scenario when we met with these NW High Point homeowners to discuss upgrading their outdoor living space. The homeowners had a small, builder grade 10 × 12 wooden deck which led off of the home’s sunroom. Even though the deck’s location had the right idea, it lacked sufficient enough size for the space to function as the homeowners wished. The deck also was void of design savvy that would help open up the deck to the very open backyard.
During our initial design consultation we discussed two options. One was to to extend the existing deck, and the other was to build a new deck altogether. We also discussed maximizing their “diamond in the rough” – their spacious, level backyard. The ultimate decision gives these Northwest High Point homeowner’s the best of both worlds. We decided upon using the framing of the old deck and redecking with low-maintenance AZEK decking in Morado, and creating a lower level deck. The new design descends into a stamped concrete patio complete with a stunning stamped custom fire pit!
High Point NC AZEK deck and patio outdoor living design
As you can see from the before and after pictures, the new outdoor living space really changes the aesthetic of the rear of this home for the better. Along with having more space to serve their outdoor living needs, the new design also reflects a better allocation of space. This newly allocated space flows better with the entrance to the sunroom and makes it easier to access the new patio space located in the backyard. Archadeck of the Piedmont Triad added wide wrap around stairs on the lower level deck as well that allow the homeowners to gently descend to the patio below.

To further the enjoyment and convenience of the new space, we also added custom built-in bench seating to the second level deck. The seating was built using the same low-maintenance AZEK decking as the deck and will bring the homeowners years of enjoyment and extra seating! The custom stain and stamp concrete patio is built using a circular design to offset the more formal square deck. This approach adds visual interest and balances the outdoor living combination. The alluring fire pit was also finished using the same stain and stamp concrete motif, which mimics the look of vintage cobblestone. The pattern of the patio entwines into a circular form which gives birth to the fire pit – very dramatic.
