Archadeck of Raleigh-Durham and B93.9 Honor Vietnam Veteran Richard Stowe with the Salute with Service Project for 2019
During May’s Military Appreciation Month, Archadeck once again joined hands with B93.9 for the annual Salute with a Service project. Veterans from across the Raleigh-Durham and Greater Triangle were nominated by friends and family to have an outdoor living project completed.
The 2019 winner was Richard Stowe, a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam veteran.
Mr. Stowe uses a scooter for increased mobility. During our initial design consultation, it became clear that his home’s entry was not fully functional for his needs. The home’s existing ramp and landing were too small and narrow, leaving him little room to maneuver around the open door or turn his scooter. In addition, the structure was worn with age, making it potentially unsafe. These concerns made it challenging for Mr. Stowe to get in and out of his house.
Before
In order to better serve Mr. Stowe, the Archadeck of Raleigh-Durham team designed and built a wider ramp and larger deck landing.
The Stow family’s new deck and ramp feature TimberTech composite decking in Brown Oak with Sandy Birch trim. The durability of the decking material increases the longevity of the ramp as well as being an attractive addition to their home. The new TimberTech decking also reduces the family’s maintenance needs as they will not have to stain, paint, or seal their new structure. The family can count on the finish to last by not wearing thin, scratching, or fading.
After
The Stowe’s deck and ramp also feature low-maintenance and modern Deckorator rails in black. Deckorator rails are ideal for their low-maintenance longevity as well as their stylish look.
With the new deck and ramp, Mr. Stowe can move more easily in and out of his home. He also has a lovely place to relax outdoors with his wife and grandchildren.
With Special Thanks
We are honored to be included in B93.9’s annual efforts to support local military families and veterans. We want to thank our staff and crew for their hard work on this valuable project. We also want to thank American Cedar for donating the framing material and fasteners, and AZEK/TimberTech for donating the decking and rails. We are grateful to work alongside such generous carpenters and businesses on the common goal of giving back to others in our community!
