As a preferred custom porch builder in Cary, we approach all of our projects with a creative, solution-driven outlook. Our Archadeck team recently had the pleasure of designing a back porch for Cary homeowners who had been told by others that what they wanted was impossible.
Our clients had a clear idea of the back porch they wanted for their home in the Danbury neighborhood of Cary. After consulting with several other builders who did not feel they could achieve the desired results, the homeowners contacted us. Our design team got to work and developed a creative solution that met the clients’ goals and local building codes.
How did we do it?
Archadeck’s Creative Problem-Solving
While some clients come to Archadeck of Raleigh-Durham with general ideas of what they want, others are much more specific. These Cary homeowners knew exactly what they wanted: a back porch where they could relax outdoors and watch tv together with some privacy. Their challenge was a microwave exhaust system on the back of the house that vented directly into the space where they wanted to build the new porch. Not only did the vent leave little space for hanging a tv, while researching the project the homeowners discovered that the vent did not meet building code.
Ultimately, other outdoor contractors declined to offer a solution and therefore would not build the project to their desired specifications.
The couple’s Archadeck design consultant worked with the rest of the Archadeck team to figure out a creative solution to address the vent issue and make the project a reality. Ultimately we were able to meet the homeowner's requirements for aesthetics and function while keeping the project within the Town of Cary’s building codes by successfully rerouting and enclosing the vent within the framing of the porch ceiling.
Archadeck’s Results
This customized back porch offers approximately 200 square feet of outdoor living space where the Cary homeowners can spend time relaxing, dining, and even watching their favorite television together in pleasant weather. This porch features premium #1 Pressure Treated wood decking contrasted beautifully with black Deckorator balusters. The ceiling is finished in beadboard with a ceiling fan for added comfort. A decorative wall featuring one-inch pressure-treated vertical lattice adds privacy and gives the porch the feel of a cozy nook surrounded on three sides.
