Our feature project this week tells more than just a deck story — it tells a backyard story…
When we initially met with these Centerville, OH, homeowners to discuss improving their backyard for the better we had a checklist of items they wanted to address. The first was the navigation issues with their existing deck design. Their current deck design made accessibility into other areas of the backyard cumbersome. The second issue was their desire for a low-maintenance deck as their existing one was wooden and showing signs of age and wear. Archadeck of West Central & Southwest Ohio was able to improve both of these concerns with one cohesive and sleek new pool deck design!

The original wooden deck design came off a sleeper deck under their existing pergola. From here, you then had to step onto the octagonal area and step down to enter the backyard. This connection was just difficult to maneuver so we came up with a user-friendly design. Once we completely removed the old deck, we installed a fillet corner on the new deck. This allowed the new deck to be on one level and much more open than the previous structure. We added rounded corners to the new design in order to ease the edges.
Since the new deck was over 40’ long, we also installed two stunning custom inlays (one on the pergola deck and one on the pool deck), to add interest and aesthetics. Taking convenience, and comfort, a step further — the new deck also includes large steps for easy entry with one step down to the pool deck apron. Since the deck is low-to-grade and does not need railings by code, we added a custom radius bench in order to help define the corner.
Of course, in grand Archadeck style, the amazing design details did not end with the updated footprint. The new deck was built using low-maintenance Armadillo decking. We used the color Sunset for the decking field and Campfire for the custom inlays.
The new deck adds functional style to this backyard along with ease of transition from one space to the next.
