When Dayton-area homeowners need a shady space outdoors, will they choose something purely functional or go for an ornamental design aesthetic? In the case of our clients in Washington Township, OH, they chose the ornamental option. Archadeck of West Central & Southwest Ohio designed this spacious gazebo to deliver shade and vertical interest on the poolside backyard patio.
Many times when we’re asked to design a shade structure, the clients are interested in adding a pergola or roof over their deck or patio. These clients in Washington Township, OH, were looking for something even more decorative. The gazebo we designed for their patio delivers guaranteed shade, and it’s also a bit whimsical. You can easily picture a carousel of prancing wooden horses going ‘round and ‘round in the center.
Ample Shade Increases Outdoor Enjoyment
As you can see, the homeowners’ pool surround and patio were exposed to full sun. In such a setting, you cannot enjoy the outdoors for long before you want to run inside for air conditioning. Even a pleasant day can become uncomfortable without shade. Not only can sitting in full sun be torture, you have to consider the health hazards related to sun exposure. When you have shade, you can stay outdoors longer and you get more enjoyment out of the time you spend there.
— Before
Our clients have a special reason for wanting to add a shade cover on their patio: grandchildren! That’s right, they like to keep an eye on the grandkids splashing about in the swimming pool. Not only did they need shade for themselves, they needed a way for the children to get out of the sun once in a while.
Archadeck Designs an Adorable Gazebo!
The homeowners have the perfect spot near the pool for this picturesque gazebo. Carved out of the concrete pool surround is an ample light-colored paver patio with a border of darker pavers. The patio’s delicate, curved shape practically embraces the new gazebo. The patio is larger than it looks, too. This 16 × 16 ft. gazebo provides plenty of space for a table and chairs.
For gazebo materials, the clients chose pressure-treated wood with cedar stain. The structure’s standing seam metal roof matches the roof on their home.
Looking at the homeowners’ manicured landscaping, you can tell details matter here. Each of the gazebo’s wood posts is topped with ornamental wood brackets. The double ring of decorative wood molding encircling the roof on two levels adds charm and mimics the top section of the fence in the background.
When summer arrives, our clients will be ready to enjoy it—and their grandchildren, too!
